Dr. Oriana Skylar Mastro, a Center Fellow with CISAC at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, is seeking a tenacious research assistant with first-rate analytical capabilities and outstanding academic credentials.
The RA will work part-time or full-time over the spring and/or summer quarter directly with Professor Mastro on research projects on the history of China-Russia military relations, Taiwan’s defense and deterrence and their implications for Japanese security. Responsibilities include conducting literature reviews, drafting memos, revising and editing documents, and evaluating primary and secondary sources relating to China-Russia military relations, US-China relations and the Taiwan issue. Previous relevant research experience related to military and/or political Russian or Chinese history is an advantage. Additional important skills include professionalism, self-motivation, and organizational skills. Part-time and full-time hybrid or remote work available in the spring and summer quarter. This position is only open to Stanford undergraduate students.

Indo-Pacific Policy Lab Internship Support Fund

The Indo-Pacific Policy Lab Internship Support Fund provides supplemental Summer Quarter support for Stanford undergraduate and graduate students who secure internships in the field of Indo-Pacific security and policy. Funding is intended to assist students with unpaid internships or internship-related expenses that exceed the host organization’s stipend.

Please note that funding is competitive and limited; not all applicants will receive an award.

Eligibility

Open only to currently enrolled Stanford undergraduate and graduate students.

Students must have an internship offer related to Indo-Pacific security or policy.

Funding supports both unpaid positions and cases where internship-related expenses exceed provided stipends.
Funding Range
​Awards typically fall within the range of $2,500–$8,000, depending on available funding and demonstrated need.
​
Expenses beyond the awarded amount remain the responsibility of the student.
Eligible uses include housing near the internship site, local transportation, required travel, and meal support when not otherwise provided.
